Flooding the Zone

June 7, 2025

There comes a time when I need to take reality by the horns, look at in in the face and say, “I can’t take this anymore.”  My avoidance has made me believe that I’ve become a denialist. It’s not because I’m in denial of anything that is happening in our government right now, but because there’s so much going on at one time that is intrinsically evil simmering from the oval office brought to you by MAGA. Now, don’t get me wrong. There is one man who is mainly causing most of chaos happening however there is a throng of desperate Yes men and spineless politicians who are helping him cause the chaos. In the few short months since Trump’s return to the White House, we, the American people have been inundated with a barrage of policy and executive orders that could make anyone’s head spin. Let’s face it, there are two or three news stories per day that are beyond belief. We barely have time to pull our jaws off the floor when the next day, there’s a new low, a new lie or a new outrage. This is done purposely. This is flooding the zone.

So, what is flooding the zone you say? Flooding the zone is a technique that media uses to overwhelm the public. Information, events, national stories, international stories, crude and heartless comments made by the likes Karoline Leavitt, the White House Press Secretary or Stephen Miller, the White House Chief of Staff - Nosferatu to the core. After a while, the blitz of stories oozing out from the likes of CNN, MSNBC or faux Fox “news” is so harrowing and repugnant, one is left drained from the onslaught. When the day is over and our minds have just grasped what we heard and put our heavy heads on our pillows, we wake to a new torrent of lunacy. It’s constantly incoming, like being on a battlefield unprotected attacked by enemy artillery.

Let’s start with DOGE. The Department of Government Efficiency was never really a government office. It was an official sounding entity that Trump’s cronies made up to find “fraud and abuse” that was leading to billions being wasted. Trump put the world’s richest man in charge, Elon Musk. Each day Musk would announce the trillions of dollars of fraud he was finding. He wound up his tenure with DOGE in early June. Despite saying that he found so much fraud and people were going to be charged, he never published his findings. Seemed more like an excuse to sneak into people’s personal information. Nevertheless, his work was done and back to Tesla he headed. Until he got into a social media war with 47 over a senate bill that he didn’t want passed. More on that in a later date.

Then there’s the matter of the Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth. Probably one of the ineptest men who’s ever been lucky (or unlucky) enough to be put in the position of overseeing our military. Besides making monumental name changes to aircraft carriers and bases (because renaming them from the Ruth Bader Ginsburg to some mediocre white guy is so historically significant) he’s also been responsible for some consequential military operations. Some of these operations were highly sensitive. But old Pete didn’t seem to think so. He made sure that everyone in his chat group knew about these operations, including people like the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg. But it’s okay, the second time he used the messaging app for top secret military moves, he omitted Goldberg. Instead, he included his wife. And his brother. And his lawyer. People who REALLY needed to be in on it. This scandal was never investigated. I can’t even imagine if this happened on Biden’s watch.

We can’t forget this whole trade war that Trump has stubbornly gotten the US into. He’s gaslit his base into believing that the higher tariffs on other countries, the will more money we’ll be raking in. No. We don’t collect tariffs on other countries goods. The consumers pay the tariffs. But don’t tell that the typical MAGA supporter. If Trump says we’ll be rich, then anyone who begs to differ just suffers from TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome.) I beg to differ. Anyone who believes everything that dribbles out of Trump’s twisted duck lips can be labeled as deranged in my opinion. Nevertheless, he called the day he unveiled his demented tariff list “liberation day.” Tariffs for everybody! Including an uninhabited tiny piece of land called Heard Island. No human beings. Just a bunch of penguins living there. It’s okay though. The penguins are scoffing at us, along with Canada, Mexico, the EU and many other nation states who’ve decided not only will they be turning their backs on the US, but they’ll be looking for other trade partners. But we still have China and all those delicious cheap goods we love to buy from them, surely, they’ll negotiate? Well, not exactly. According to the White House Lying Secretary, China will be calling any day now to make a deal. Why? Because China needs us. Well, not exactly. Once dufus raised the tariffs in China, they reciprocated and raised American tariffs. Trump said, no way, I’m the big bad alpha male so we’re going higher. The two countries went back and forth. The whole thing reminded me of an episode of Bugs Bunny when he was fighting with Daffy Duck about what type of hunting season it was. Duck season! Rabbit season! Back and forth until Daffy got confused and started insisting it was indeed duck season. The joke’s on Trumpy dumpy. Like a girl desperately waiting for her dream man to call her and invite her to the prom, he waited. But China’s President Xi never called. It never occurred to the US Resident that China had other deals to make that didn’t include the US. So, there was no need to negotiate. They just left him hanging in the winds while the word coming out of the White House was Xi would be calling any day now. I can only imagine how incredibly comical this is whole situation was to China. On the other hand, at least the world isn’t laughing at us like when Joe Biden was president, blah, blah, blah, says Trump. No dude. The world didn’t laugh at him. They’re laughing at you.

Still, we’re just touching the tip of the iceberg. The administration is trying to pass an OMNIBUS bill that is so unpopular, even Republicans in Congress hate it. Trump is also trying to push to the Federal Reserve Chairman to lower the rates DESPISTE the fed being a separate, nonpartisan entity. There was also a very ugly showdown with President Zelensky of Ukraine which included VP Vance demanding thank yous from Zelensky for all the US has graciously done for him, and so on and so on and so on. There’s so much more from the petty to the extreme. And did I mention it’s only been 138 days since he’s been back in office? Oy vey!
